Upstairs
Upstairs is a little stunner lounge perched atop Midtown’s Kimberly Hotel. This rooftop is enjoyable in summer and in winter with its retractable roof.
This rooftop is one of those places that lets you look upon the grandeur of Midtown and remember why you chose to live in this city. Stepping out among potted flowers and black wicker furniture, beneath a crisscross of exposed lightbulbs strung overhead, you have just entered the sort of garden party that rarely happens within view of the Chrysler Building.
Azure
Located on the top two floors of Hotel LKF, Azure is a sophisticated yet contemporary restaurant and lounge. The most striking here is the prospect of looking down at the city lights from such a dizzying height. There is also the possibility to relax at 29th & 30th floors and feel the vibrant spirit of the city in the soft jazz played in the background.
To get to the roof (on the 30th floor), you have to buy a drink. But we are pretty sure that most of our readers always do so…

Epic Sky
New to EPIC Restaurant in River North this spring, the 3,000-square-foot roof deck lounge Epic Sky features lounge-y seating, a couple of de rigueur cabanas and a white-acrylic back bar with amber lights. It’s only a three- or four-story building, but it still has nice views of the downtown skyline. Becareful, if you want something to eat, you will have to go downstairs, to one of the three levels of the enormous restaurant. The rooftop area is very upscale, and just like any other rooftop bar in Chicago unless you plan on getting bottle service get there very early or you won’t have any luck getting in or getting a seat.
C Level Rooftop Terrace
At the center of the Art Deco District on Ocean Drive, the Clevelander Hotel has two rooftop decks with ocean-front and city views. The C-Level Rooftop Terrace was named for it’s 360-panoramic views that it offers of the Atlantic Ocean, Miami skyline, Ocean Drive, Lummus Park and even the Port of Miami. The Top

In terms of local lounges it ranks at the top, both geographically and socially from its rooftop location a top the Adriana Hotel on Hvar harbor. From a groovy lobby lounge with its own following, guests arrive to the rooftop with walls pulsating in ambient blue lighting as martini drinkers in their designer resort wear sit on low-flung sofas and groovy club chairs arranged facing oversize windows overlooking Hvar harbor. An outdoor terrace connects to several lounge areas arranged in weatherized rattan with cushy pillows and flickering candlelit.
Galaxy Bar
Nibbling on dim sum while gazing at the Acropolis can feel a bit surreal, but the Galaxy Bar serves up an Oriental, rather than meze, snack menu on its open-air terrace.
ToTT’s Roof Terrace
Causeway Bay has one swanky rooftop respite that isn’t talked about much. Ironically, it’s called ToTT, which stands for Talk of The Town. Located at 34th floor, the newly opened outdoor roof terrace, ToTT’s and Roof Terrace now offers alfresco dining and wining with exhilarating views of Victoria Harbour and the stunning city skyline. Entering the Roof Terrace from the striking red glass door, guests will be attracted by the breathtaking views of the harbour overlooking the Hong Kong Island’s skyscrapers that the newly constructed glass parapets, complemented by the wooden-decking and rich violet and gold mosaics.
The Sunday brunch, with its unlimited champagne, is so popular you should book at least 2 weeks in advance.
RoofTop Lounge Bar
In the heart of Rome, this is a great place for soaking up the atmosphere without having to contend with the tourist hordes. The splendid terrace is home to the exclusive Roof Top Lounge Bar where you can sip a cocktail and admire the breathtaking and enchanting view over the rooftops, domes and terraces of Rome.
Terrasse des Galeries Lafayette
This rooftop, design by Patrick Jouin is an Ephemere restaurant on the top floor of the Galleries Lafayette. To get there, you have to go through the 7 floors of the Galleries Lafayette, which can be very difficult for a shopaholic! On the roof, you are in one of the best spot to see Paris. In fact, the view is almost the same as the Deli-cieux. The restaurant is very good. The chef used to work with Alain Passard, Michelin’s 3 stars restaurant (l’Arpège).
White
White immortalizes the spirit of Beirut. White’s rooftop bar, situated atop Nahar Building, opens exclusively from May to October, during which it hosts a who’s who lineup of world-famous acts and international DJs who come to rock the decks.
The space is exactly what you might expect, a lavish terrace with very little color aside from the slick white design palette that extends throughout the canopy-covered dining room and open-air lounge that’s one of Beirut’s top destinations for the under-40 and fabulous. No wonder nights at White have been described as “nothing short of spectacular.” Diners arrive around 8PM and by 1AM the scene turns into a full-on nightclub as dinner plates are traded in for dancing shoes and flirtatious moves.
Penthouse 808 at Ravel Hotel
Right off the Queensboro bridge, across from Manhattan, this luxe rooftop bar is a newcomer to the scene but definitely has the views to compete with the best of them.
Situated atop the Ravel Hotel, the Penthouse 808 (which debuted in May 2009) is no doubt the hotel’s centerpiece. It delivers up-close vistas of the bridge and Midtown high-rises, as well as a sweeping vista of the East River (two factory smoke stacks sit in the foreground but add depth to the otherwise picture-perfect view). If there’s a private party, the kitchen can’t handle outside orders; and the music is a tad too loud for sunset cocktails. Still, for those after killer city views, it’s a vantage point that can’t be beat.
Les Jardins Plein Ciel
Tucked away on the 7th floor of one of the parisian palaces, this rooftop offers panoramic views over the French capital city. A cold buffet and grilled dishes cooked on the barbecue are served both lunch and dinner in the summer months. An exceptional place, with the extra appeal of teak furniture and a giant chessboard, created as a tribute to Leonard Tauber, founder of the Chess Club of France.
Boundary
Here’s a newish addition to London’s rooftop dining scene, recently opened in January 2009. It’s tough to secure a table as it only opens on pleasant summer afternoons.
The Rooftop is elevated above east London, perched on top of the Conran-designed Boundary Project, which is a boutique hotel, restaurant (Boundary), café (Albion) and deli in the heart of Shoreditch. Get in the lift in reception and press ‘T’ (for top) – or join the queue waiting patiently downstairs on busy days. It’s an alfresco rooftop retreat offering impressive panoramic views of London. There’s upright eating for 48, or lounge on wicker sofas and summer seats surrounded by various shrubbery, heaters, the smoky scent of cigars and a wood-burning fire – and blankets, should it get a bit brass monkeys.
The W Bar Terrace
Located on the top floor of the Warwick Hotel, near the Champs Elysées, this rooftop is just open during summer.
