A branch of the local Astroturf company might have been busy with the flooring of the Fringe Club Roof Garden, but this is one of the few open-air bars in Central and has become a hot hangout for ex-pat artists and music lovers who want to get away from the ‘scene’ scene.
Our selection of rooftops in ‘Hong Kong’
Fringe Club
Azure
Located on the top two floors of Hotel LKF, Azure is a sophisticated yet contemporary restaurant and lounge. The most striking here is the prospect of looking down at the city lights from such a dizzying height. There is also the possibility to relax at 29th & 30th floors and feel the vibrant spirit of the city in the soft jazz played in the background.
To get to the roof (on the 30th floor), you have to buy a drink. But we are pretty sure that most of our readers always do so…
Top Deck
In 2005 Cafe Deco Group opened Top Deck, the unique restaurant and bar on the top floor of Hong Kong’s legendary Jumbo Floating Restaurant. If you don’t know this place, it’s an entire imperial floating palace in the middle of the Aberdeen Harbor in southern Hong Kong Island. Even Queen Elizabeth II has dined there!
ToTT’s Roof Terrace
Causeway Bay has one swanky rooftop respite that isn’t talked about much. Ironically, it’s called ToTT, which stands for Talk of The Town. Located at 34th floor, the newly opened outdoor roof terrace, ToTT’s and Roof Terrace now offers alfresco dining and wining with exhilarating views of Victoria Harbour and the stunning city skyline. Entering the Roof Terrace from the striking red glass door, guests will be attracted by the breathtaking views of the harbour overlooking the Hong Kong Island’s skyscrapers that the newly constructed glass parapets, complemented by the wooden-decking and rich violet and gold mosaics.
The Sunday brunch, with its unlimited champagne, is so popular you should book at least 2 weeks in advance.
Sugar
Located on the 32nd floor and open until 2AM, this rooftop is designed to be the place for an after-work drink or a late “chill out”.
Red Bar
Situated below one of the world’s greatest skyscrapers, RED offers something unique: A chance to experience how it feels to sit at the foot of — and stare up at — a towering sovereign of the sky. RED finds itself in the shadow of the International Finance Center, all 86 floors of it (it’s on the rooftop garden of the IFC mall). It’s true that the IFC isn’t much to go drooling over, but it’s tall, it’s lit up with cool lights, and it was in “The Dark Knight”.
The Backyard
The Backyard, a 6000-square foot idyllic outdoor play place, is part of the Langham Place hotel. This place is not on top of the Langham Place Hotel, but it’s one of the best outdoor place to have a drink after work.
Chill-out in outdoor lounges framed by swaying palms, kick back in cabanas with savoury bites and scintillating summer libations, and get into the groove on the dance floor as you take in the stellar sounds, in a night that will take your breath away!
Wooloo Mooloo
Situated on the 34th floor of The Hennessy, this rooftop is high enough to escape trafic noise while still serving as an observation point for the city below, it is an ideal hangout for a drink.
Sevva
So posh that the financial crisis might have wiped out half its clientele. Ice cream here costs as much as a five-course meal elsewhere. At RED you get to stare at the IFC.
